Television Producing
These are some highlights from the 30 minute shows I've produced for NCC News. I realize they're not perfect, so I've outlined a couple aspects of each segment that I liked and didn't like. These were all made using AP ENPS, Adobe Premiere, FileZilla, Avid Nexis, and XPression.
November 15th NCC News Top Stories
Pros
-
I like how I was able to build on a big news story that day in William’s official victory. I thought the two graphics I used were clear and easy to understand. Also, I thought it was important to provide the context about how it affects the House as a whole.

I thought the way I presented the Thanksgiving travel story worked well. The bullet points came in one-by-one as our anchor read them. But, I made sure to add some extra information so the viewer wasn’t just reading exactly what was being said.

Cons
-
I thought the story about President Biden’s student loan forgiveness could’ve been stronger visually. The first image in that section I should’ve pushed or made it a web scroll to make it more grabbing to the viewer.

The lower third for the Baldwinsville Superintendent story should’ve been in sentence case to match the rest of them.

November 29th NCC News B Block
Pros
Cons
-
I like how I presented the Idaho murders story. I gave updates on it, but also reminded the viewer what has happened so far and why it’s such an unusual story. I thought the bullet points did a good job of conveying that.

I liked how I put our entertainment anchor at the wall. I thought it looked great and it was nice to mix it up after focusing on the desk for nearly 3 minutes.

There’s no reason why the monkey pox story didn’t have a lower third to accompany the over the shoulder image. I should always be looking for ways to present new information.
-

I thought the image of the Balenciaga bag was on the screen for too long. I should’ve looked it over that before the show and made sure there was at least one more image, video, or fullscreen to break it up.

September 27th NCC News Top Stories
Pros
Cons
-
I loved how the headlines looked, specifically the Monday Night Football part. The anchors read the lines in perfect sequence with the videos. Also, the slow motion touchdown catch looked really nice and was timed perfectly.

I think I should’ve thrown in an over the shoulder graphic for either the third or fourth story in this section. It could’ve easily worked with the Common Council story. If I were to do it again, I’d put a picture of Gethers there so the audience can match a face to the name.

September 27th NCC News B Block
Pros
-
I like how I started the B block with a split read and a two shot. I think seeing the anchors reading together shows camaraderie. It also makes the viewer feel comfortable to see both anchors sitting next to each other out of the break - just like how the show started.

I think it makes a lot of sense how I stacked this B block and linked stories together. It went from hurricane in Florida, to New Yorkers moving to Florida, to federal travel rules. This makes sense logically and I thought the line I wrote that transitioned the Florida hurricane story to the New Yorkers moving to Florida story worked well.

Cons
-
The lower third for the Russia - Ukraine story is poorly written. The bottom half should say “seeking” and just could’ve been worded better. If I could rewrite it, I’d have the top half read “RUSSIANS FLEEING AFTER HUGE MILITARY MOBILIZATION,” and the bottom would say “KREMLIN MAY EXPAND DRAFT-ELIGIBLE AGE.”

The Canada COVID story had some repetitive elements. The anchor reads “Canada says they are removing all COVID-19 related travel restrictions.” The over the shoulder graphic says “CANADA LIFTS COVID RESTRICTIONS.” The lower third says “CANADA REMOVING COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS.” This is not ideal because I should use at least one of the elements to say something new - otherwise it’s a waste of space.
